Legal Statement

the company

ZF BioLabs is one of the first European biotechnology companies specialized in the use of the zebrafish (Danio rerio) as an alternative model for toxicology and biomedical research. The zebrafish embryo is becoming one of the most important biomedical and toxicological models due to its main advantage of being a whole vertebrate organism but small enough to be handled in multiwell plates.

Our main aim is to provide new products and state of the art contract research services to lower the costs and speed-up R&D activities related to drug discovery, safety assessment and toxicological studies. All this is based on the use of the zebrafish model and focused on the following areas of expertise:

  • TOXICITY AND SAFETY ASSAYS: acute toxicity, teratogenicity, organ-specific toxicity, toxicogenomics, ecotoxicology, nanotoxicity, etc.
  • READY TO USE KITS: which widen the possible use of this in vitro/in vivo model to a larger range of laboratories and research centres maintaining full control over the confidentiality of their results while avoiding the need of an in-house zebrafish breeding facilities, otherwise needed.
  • FUNCTIONAL GENOMICS: gene silencing, target validation, transgenic models, etc. a wize use of the zebrafish alternative model based on genomic approaches due to the high homology that exist between human and zebrafish genomes (>80%).
  • HUMAN DISEASE MODELS: based on genomic approaches due to the high homology that exist between human and zebrafish genomes (>80%) and its application for the screening of new compounds/extracts, etc.
  • ZEBRAFISH MODULAR RACK SYSTEM: Setup your own zebrafish modular lab with the whole toxicology test package, design and setup of tailor-made zebrafish state-of-the-art breeding and rearing facilities, microinjection workstation, training and technical assistance, etc.
  • ZEBRAFISH BREEDING TECHNOLOGIES: including the development of a new zebrafish embryo production technology, feeds and feeding strategies, etc.

ZF BioLabs has its own in-house R&D Programme (example: world leading embryo production technology) which incorporates new technologies. ZF BioLabs was incorporated in 2003, participates in cooperative R&D projects with European and Spanish research centres and private companies.

FPCM
The company has its own headquarter and laboratory facilities in Tres Cantos (Madrid, Spain) and it has been one of the promoters of the Madrid Biotechnology Cluster. ZF BioLabs has available a molecular biology laboratory in the incubator of the Scientific Park of Madrid in Tres Cantos.

ZF BioLabs is owned by Innovatec, which is an independent Spanish consultancy firm specialized in R&D.
